Submit Special Collections Instruction Requests for Spring by October 17

Posted September 23, 2022 in Carrier Renovation News, Special Collections News

JMU faculty members, if you would like to incorporate instruction with Special Collections materials as part of your spring 2023 course, please submit a request by Monday, October 17 at 5pm.

Special Collections instructors will review your requests and determine what we are able to support by Monday, October 31. Please be aware that submitting your request on time does not guarantee instruction support in spring 2023. Instruction requests made after the October 17 deadline will not be considered for spring 2023.

Why this deadline? The renovation and expansion of Carrier Library will begin soon after graduation festivities in May 2023. All faculty, staff, resources, and services currently located in Carrier Library will relocate to interim spaces for the duration of the construction project. Special Collections instructors and staff have reduced capacity in the lead-up to May, as we prepare to move our offices and collections while finalizing interim service plans that are supportive of our users. For more information about these interim services, including Special Collections instruction while Carrier Library is under construction, please refer to our renovation FAQs, which we update as frequently as possible.

How to submit your spring instruction request: Please use the Special Collections request form by October 17 at 5pm. Please supply as much detail as possible. We acknowledge that you may not yet know enrollment capacity or days and times that your course will meet. By providing us with general course information and details about your goals and instructional needs, you will enable us to make informed decisions about instruction support.

We deeply appreciate your partnership and collaboration, and we are grateful for your understanding as we prepare for service and building changes necessitated by the upcoming Carrier renovation and expansion project. Please contact Kate Morris, Head of Special Collections (morriskn@jmu.edu), with questions.
