Work in Groups in Online or Hybrid Classes
It may take you some time and experimentation to find the best ways to work in groups while taking online or hybrid classes – and that’s okay. You’ll figure it out. Ask your professor or talk openly with your fellow group members about what the best communication and collaboration strategies and tools might be.
Tools for Holding Group Meetings Online
Canvas
Group work can happen within Canvas “Groups” set up by professors. In a Canvas group, you can send announcements to group members, create pages, share files, and create discussion posts including text, images, audio, or video. Learn more:
- Visit Canvas Groups
- Create a page in Canvas Groups and share your presentation or work
- Upload a presentation or project file to Canvas Groups
- Record audio or video with Rich Content Editor on a Page or Discussion Post
Zoom
JMU students can use Zoom to host group meetings with fellow students. You can even invite a professor to your group meeting, if you want.
