About me

As Director of Instructional Design (ID) in JMU Libraries, I provide adaptive leadership and design strategies in co-building a learning environment for all learners. Through consultations, collaborations, and contextualized exploration with peer faculty, instructional designers support teaching and learning at James Madison University with evidence-based practices. My role includes stewarding the manifold existing and growing ID expertise, intentionally applying learning science and evaluating technology affordance, and leveraging the scope and scale of collaborations across campus for course, curriculum, and learning initiative design and redesign.

As a faculty scholar in learning science and design-based research, I continue to experiment and apply scholarship on broadening learning access with OER design, designing for the evolving learning needs and environments with adaptive leadership, collaborating with academic and community partners, exploring emerging technologies such as generative AI, and generating cross-cultural collaborative research. My work can be found in the TechTrends, Online Learning Journal, Journal of Geoscience Education, Journal of Applied Instructional Design (JAID), book chapters published with Springer, Routledge, ACRL, Brill, et al., and edited works published through IEEE Xplore. Currently I’m serving as the chair of AECT Design & Development Competition Committee, on the TechTrends Editorial Board, The Journal of Computers for Science and Mathematics Learning (JCSML) Editorial Board, and as an Associate Editor of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) Curriculum Journal.

With the privilege of engaging in the JMU community and broader academic networks, I enjoy hiking, gardening, reading, writing, and experimenting with cuisines from diverse cultures.
