Statewide and National Open Education Initiatives
JMU isn’t going it alone when it comes to advocating for open education—we’re leading and participating in statewide and national initiatives to support JMU students and faculty!
Statewide Initiatives
As a member of VIVA–the academic library consortium of Virginia–JMU Libraries leverages statewide resources for JMU faculty, including:
- Grants and stipends to support your work on open education
- Powerful tools to help you find open educational resources, such as VIVA Open
- Free professional development opportunities such as the Open and Affordable Community Forum
Questions about VIVA? Please contact Liz Thompson, Open Education Librarian, vice-chair of VIVA’s Open and Affordable Course Content Committee, and chair of VIVA’s Open and Affordable Community Forum Planning Committee
National Programs
Our Open Education Librarian was selected to take part in the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program, which provides ongoing resources to support our open education efforts.
JMU also formed a team of faculty and staff from across campus to apply for the American Association of Colleges and Universities 2023-24 Institute on Open Educational Resources. This institute brings together teams from all over the country who are interested in implementing open education initiatives at their institutions.
