Congratulations to the five JMU faculty members who were recently awarded JMU Libraries’ summer stipends for transitioning to open educational resources (OER)! By revising the courses noted below, these faculty members will save about 300 students more than $20,000 in textbook costs in the first semester alone. The awardees will teach their redesigned courses in the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Danielle DeRise – WRTC 103, Rhetorical Reading and Writing
- Jennifer Byrne – POSC 326, Civil Rights
- Yi Edward Yang – POSC 295, Research Methods in Political Science
- Sojib Bin Zaman – HTH 320, Statistical Methods for Health Science Research
- Eva Strawbridge – MATH 103, The Nature of Mathematics
JMU Libraries’ Summer Stipend for Transitioning to OER provides funding for JMU faculty to redesign courses and assignments when transitioning to an open textbook or other OER.
We will announce the next call for proposals in February 2025. Visit our Grants & Stipends page for deadlines for this and other funding opportunities.
This stipend is one of many ways JMU is supporting faculty and students to make textbooks more affordable. Learn more about Open Education at JMU.
