17 Online Resources We Added in 2023

In 2023, JMU Libraries acquired 17 major online resources in support of your learning, teaching, and research. These include news sources, financial and market data, streaming videos, and more—all available on our Databases page.
Of course, we also added many new books, ebooks, videos, journal and news subscriptions, and other resources this year (and every year!).
Explore the newest online resources available to the JMU community:
- AccessEngineering – A platform providing engineering handbooks, textbooks, case studies, calculation spreadsheets, videos, and more. From McGraw-Hill.
- APQC (American Productivity & Quality Center) – An online platform provided by a non-profit organization that focuses on business productivity, including benchmarking, best practices, process improvement, and knowledge management. Find information, data, and insights that organizations need to support decision-making and develop skills. Use your JMU email to create an account the first time you visit this site.
- Birds of the World – A tool providing comprehensive life history information for all bird species. Find scholarly content from four celebrated works of ornithology, millions of bird observations, multimedia, and more. From the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
- Current Biography Illustrated – An online version of the magazine Current Biography, which publishes biographies of accomplished and rising stars of government, industry, entertainment, and the arts from around the world. Search by occupation, activity, birthday, and more.
- The Drum – Provides news, events, trends, and challenges in the marketing and media industries. From off campus, you’ll need to use JMU’s VPN client.
- The Economist – A British weekly newspaper covering current affairs, international business, politics, technology, and culture. Follow these instructions to access JMU’s school-sponsored subscription for the first time.
- Evidence Analysis Library (EAL) – A food and nutrition research source providing evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines and systematic reviews. From the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- FitchConnect – Provides access to bank financial data and in-depth reports providing country risk ratings and macroeconomic forecasts for 200+ global markets. From Fitch Ratings, an American credit rating agency.
- Harvard Business Review (HBR) – While we have provided “read only” access to this management magazine for years, we recently updated our license so that you can now use HBR articles in your courses! Questions about what this means? Please contact your department’s liaison librarian.
- Indigenous Peoples of North America, Part II: The Indian Rights Association, 1882-1986 – A collection for exploration of the political, social, and cultural history of Indigenous peoples from the 16th-20th century. From Gale Primary Sources. JMU’s access to this content is subsidized by VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium.
- Insider Intelligence – Provides market data, trends, statistics, and analysis on the internet, e-business, online marketing, media, and emerging technologies.
- Loeb Classical Library – Offers a virtual library of Greek and Latin Classical literature, history, philosophy, and more. From the Harvard University Press.
- New Play Exchange – The world’s largest digital library of scripts by living writers. From the National New Play Network.
- Oxford Bibliographies – Offers articles with annotated bibliographies that provide accurate and reliable information on a variety of academic topics. Our access expanded in 2023 to include more subjects. From the Oxford University Press.
- Platino Educa – A streaming platform with over 300 Spanish-language films from Spain and Latin America covering a broad range of themes, including art, history, environmental science, literature, and social justice. Films have Spanish and English subtitles. JMU’s access to this content is subsidized by VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium.
- Psychotherapy.net – Provides training videos in psychotherapy and counseling, featuring leading practitioners in the field. Includes captions and searchable transcripts. JMU’s access to this content is subsidized by VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium.
- Washington Post – Full access to The Washington Post online, including unlimited access to news, opinion, interactive features, and videos. Create an account for unlimited access on a web browser or on mobile/tablet apps.
