New Guidance to Make Federally Funded Research Publicly Available Without Delay
Posted January 24, 2023 in JMU Libraries News, Open Education News
If your research is supported through government grants, new guidance to federal agencies may impact you. JMU Libraries is here to help you prepare for this guidance, which will make federally-funded research immediately available to the public, at no cost. Read the full memo from the White House Office of Science and Technology: “Ensure Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research.”
Why we believe this is good news: Making taxpayer-supported research immediately available to the public that funded it is the right thing to do. We hope this guidance will lower barriers of access to information and help our society to be better equipped to respond to the next health emergency or environmental crisis. Learn more about the benefits of this change, which will take effect across all federal funders by the end of 2025.
How we’ll support you: Our Liaison Librarians and Scholarly Communications Strategies team are here as a resource for you. JMU Libraries is also partnering with other academic libraries across Virginia to build the expertise and resources necessary to navigate current and future policies related to public access. Through these strong relationships and in partnership with VIVA—Virginia’s academic library consortium—we are collaborating across the Commonwealth to increase the impact of research conducted at Virginia’s universities.
