Staff Reminder to Mark No/Low-Cost Courses in Course Scheduler
Posted January 16, 2025 in JMU Libraries News, Open Education News
This is a friendly reminder for staff who are responsible for entering classes in Course Scheduler. Please make sure that any courses with textbooks costing less than $40 at the JMU Bookstore are marked as No/Low-Cost so that students can find these courses when they use the No/Low-Cost filter in MyMadison. This helps students who are struggling with the cost of textbooks to find more affordable courses and helps JMU to comply with Virginia legislation (section F) specifying that no/low-cost courses be clearly marked.
How do I enter this info in Course Scheduler? In the Class Notes section, add a code to the “Note Nbr” field – 0210 for a no-cost course and 0211 for a low-cost course. And don’t forget to also enter it as a Class Attribute in Basic Data.
Deadline: You have until March 6 to edit details for the Fall enrollment period and then you will have another brief window March 27-31. The Textbook Adoption deadline for Fall isn’t until April 1, so faculty may need a reminder in order to provide this information to you in time to include it in Course Scheduler.
Thank you for helping to make textbooks more affordable for students at JMU! Here is our faculty announcement, which we encourage you to share with faculty in your department.
