JMU Libraries Making Headlines: Recent Features and Collaborations

In case you missed them, here are recent stories by local media and JMU News that feature projects supported by JMU Libraries:
- Artificial intelligence: In an interview with WHSV-TV3, Libraries dean Bethany Nowviskie weighed in on JMU’s approach to artificial intelligence, citing “its potential impact… on our ability to foster our students’ critical thinking [and] their capacity for creative output, and on everybody’s collective production of new knowledge.” The AI Task Force at JMU includes 13 staff and faculty from JMU Libraries.
- Green Book house: The Daily News Record and JMU News recently covered the story of a collaboration between JMU and Eastern Mennonite University faculty members to preserve the history of the Francis House, Harrisonburg’s last remaining Green Book-listed property, a safe place for Black travelers to visit in the 1950s and early 60s. JMU Libraries is proud to support this effort.
- Open Educational Resources: This recent JMU News story features JMU Libraries’ efforts to address textbook affordability by promoting open textbooks and other open course materials.
- Carrier Renovation: A recent story by The Breeze describes the future Carrier Library, which is on track to reopen for Fall semester 2026. JMU News also published a story about major donor gifts inspired by the Carrier Library project.
