Bubble Sheet at JMU
Overview
JMU has introduced a new and improved test-scoring system called Bubble Sheet, which will replace the university’s Scantron system.
Bubble Sheet is a tool available through Gradescope that all faculty at JMU can access to enhance their assessment processes. Bubble Sheet provides an efficient method for grading exams and works directly within Canvas. It allows faculty to scan paper-based exams from any location, including the Assessment and Testing Center in JMU’s Gabbin Hall, saving time, expediting test scoring, and streamlining the grade-posting process.
The transition to Bubble Sheet will be fully completed by May 20, 2025, in collaboration with JMU IT and the Assessment and Testing Center.
Who can use Bubble Sheet?
The Gradescope Bubble Sheet service is available to all faculty members at JMU.
How do I use Bubble Sheet?
In Canvas: Faculty can streamline the Bubble Sheet process by using Gradescope within Canvas. Ensure your course is created and roster synced to use Gradescope’s Auto-Matching, which cross-references handwritten student names with the course roster. Gradescope offers free bubble sheet templates that can be scanned anywhere, and JMU provides a downloadable version for faculty use.
