Introducing the New “Library Search”

Posted July 10, 2020 in General Collections News, JMU Libraries News

On July 10, we released Library Search, a new tool that allows you to search our vast collection of print and electronic resources using a single easy-to-use interface. You can find it at search.lib.jmu.edu or near the top of our website’s home page. The version on our home page looks like this:

Library Search replaces a number of existing library services, including:

Why the change? We launched this new tool to provide you with a streamlined interface that allows you to search across collections and media types with greater efficiency and accuracy. Library Search makes it easier to search for library resources, request materials, and manage your library account within a single integrated interface. We want to make sure you can find what you need, when you need it.

Will I need to update any links? Links to items from the previous systems, such as the old Library Catalog, will no longer work. Faculty members, please review your course pages, syllabi, bookmarks, and other places where you may have added links to library materials and rebuild the links by searching for the items in the new Library Search system.

What happened to my saved items and searches? Items and searches saved from the old Library Catalog to your library account were not moved to Library Search. If you would like to re-create your own saved items and saved searches in Library Search, you will have until August 3, 2020 to log in to your old account in the old Library Catalog (which will not be updated or maintained from now on), view your old saved items/searches, and create them again in your new account in Library Search.
