We have the pleasure to share that Kelly Giles received the 2020 JMU Distinguished Service Award from the Division of Academic Affairs.

Giles is a JMU Associate Professor and the Applied Sciences Librarian for JMU Libraries.

She was nominated by peers not only for her steadfastness in bettering JMU Libraries, but also for her creativity and her work with game-based library orientations:

“Against the backdrop of a sea of changes within JMU Libraries … Kelly carefully and methodically shepherded [a new branch of Libraries-wide influential work]. To say that she demonstrated a persistent tenacity is an understatement.” – Nominator

“Although Kelly frequently states her lack of interest in a formal ‘leadership’ position, she nonetheless has emerged as an unofficial one. Her ability to accomplish her objectives, ask difficult questions, and pursue accountability strengthens our organization.” – Nominator

“Her leadership, creativity, and dedication in support of various forms of library outreach has benefited JMU Libraries and the people – especially the students – of James Madison University.” – Nominator

Kelly Giles’s dedication to service and advocacy has changed JMU Libraries and the JMU community for the better. Thank you and congratulations, Kelly!
