Faculty: Time to Set Up Your Course Reserves

Posted December 5, 2024 in General Collections News, JMU Libraries News

Our Course Reserves service allows you to make it easier for multiple students to access high-demand library materials by limiting checkout times to 4 hours or 4 days.

How do I limit checkout times? Please use this form to place materials on Course Reserve, including your personal copies or items that you would like the Libraries to consider purchasing. For more information, see the Course Reserves FAQ or contact reserves@jmu.edu.

We can digitize books for Course Reserve! Upon request, we can digitize books from our physical collections so that students can access them through Course Reserves without borrowing a physical copy. These items are still available to only one student at a time, but digital access makes it easier to take turns using a copy. Please use this form to submit requests for physical materials to be digitized or visit our Digital Course Reserves page to learn more.

How do students find Course Reserve items? Thanks to the “Course Reading List” feature in Canvas, you can list your course reserve materials right in Canvas next to your other required readings. If you don’t use “Course Reading List,” students can still visit Course Reserves to search for items you have put on reserve.

If you only need a chapter or article, we can scan it for you, and you can link to it anywhere in your Canvas course! Using this Scan & Deliver service, you can make the chapter or article available to your entire class without setting up a Course Reserve!

For more information on all Course Reserves services, see the Course Reserves FAQ or contact reserves@jmu.edu.
