Carrier Library Renovation and Expansion: Update on Books and Other Collections

Posted November 7, 2022 in Carrier Renovation News, General Collections News, JMU Libraries News

You can expect to see some changes in the library buildings this school year as we adjust furniture and collections to prepare for the start of construction.

In early spring semester, we will work with professional movers to relocate these items from Carrier to Rose Library:

Additional items were relocated in October, as previously announced.

These moves help prepare us for the future of our library system. When the expanded Carrier reopens, books and journals on the arts, humanities, and literature will be together in Carrier Library, while books and journals on business, engineering, health, math, sciences, social sciences, and technology will be united in Rose Library. Music Library collections will remain unchanged. Learn more about future collections locations after Carrier reopens.

Our goals in relocating these collections include improving wayfinding among the book collections, minimizing cost, and balancing multiple uses of space across our library system. Learn more about relocating collections before, during, and after the Carrier construction project.

You can still access these books, no matter where they are! Most library materials (including those in storage) are findable in our catalog and are eligible for delivery to your departmental mailbox (if you are a faculty/staff member or doctoral student) or to any library location for convenient pickup. Ask the Library at our service desks or online if you want help finding items in our buildings or catalog.
