Classroom Technology Updates for Fall
Posted July 28, 2020 in Educational Technology News, JMU Libraries News
JMU Libraries’ classroom technology team is installing equipment across campus to support the unique teaching and learning needs of the Fall 2020 semester. We’re also developing new tutorials, online office hour sessions, and other resources and programs to support your use of equipment and technology in the classroom.
We’ll share information about these programs and resources on our Classroom Technology page, which offers up-to-date information about JMU classroom technology, including a new list of rooms that will be used as temporary classrooms in the fall.
The following new equipment is being installed:
- HoverCam Solo 8 document cameras (pictured at right) will be installed in almost every classroom with a computer. These cameras have built-in microphones with a range of 10 to 12 feet and will pick up instructors’ voices quite well if they stay close to the lectern. These document cameras will be easy to use with Webex and Zoom. Find more information on the Hovercam website and look for forthcoming documentation in the Helpful Links section of the Classroom Technology page.
- Microphones in larger classrooms will aid in voice amplification. We have a limited quantity of microphones, so the larger rooms will have priority.
- Wide-angle cameras will be installed in various classrooms, including some larger rooms and performance spaces. We will share information on these cameras, and the limited number of rooms in which they’ll be installed, soon.
