Celebrating Pride Month

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is a national, annual celebration observed in June to honor the LGBTQ+ community. It serves as a time for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to celebrate diversity; promote inclusivity; and raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights, issues and experiences within the community.  

In JMU Libraries, we’re taking this opportunity to share 3 virtual book displays that we have created in partnership with JMU’s SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression):  

Beyond Binary Book Display  

This virtual display features a variety of books and movies that center transgender and gender expansive voices and narratives.

These graphic novels, essays, memoirs, and more may offer perspectives that may be similar to and different from your own.  

Queer Teach-In Book Display 

Queer Teach-In Book Display: This virtual display, which was created to support the Queer Teach-In held on October 4, 2023, includes books and films focusing on theories, personal stories, and histories that explore the experiences of queer communities in the U.S. 

Exploring Gender Identity and Expression Book Display  

JMU’s SOGIE and the Office of Disability Services collaborated to create our Exploring Gender Identity and Expression display. It dives deep into:
