Canvas Studio: JMU’s New Platform for Sharing Instructional Videos

Posted May 2, 2022 in Educational Technology News, JMU Libraries News

You can now use Canvas Studio, JMU’s new platform for recording, storing, and sharing instructional media. It is currently available to all JMU faculty, staff, and students who have a Canvas account, and will fully replace Techsmith Knowmia in July.

What is Studio?

Introducing Canvas Studio

Canvas Studio is a communication tool in Canvas that allows instructors and students to actively collaborate through video and audio media. In addition to recording and storing video content, Canvas Studio lets students and instructors interact by commenting directly on the media timeline. Students can learn from each other’s insights as well as from the instructor’s direction and feedback. Learn more about features of Canvas Studio.

What about Knowmia?

Many of the features that were available in TechSmith Knowmia, such as viewing analytics and interactive quizzing, are available in Canvas Studio. Knowmia will be discontinued by the vendor this July. We are offering support for JMU staff and faculty who want to move content from Knowmia to Studio or other platforms.

Do Studio and Zoom work together?

You can configure Canvas Studio to receive copies of the Zoom recordings you save to the cloud. By storing videos in Studio, you will not need to worry about JMU’s 60-day limit for recordings in Zoom’s cloud storage. Learn more about integrating Zoom and Studio
