Have you discovered JMU’s new podcast, Being the Change? It features interviews with members of the JMU community that take place right in our Audio Recording room in Rose Library!
Today, we’re excited to share four episodes that highlight projects that the Libraries has supported!
- The Library of the Future: Get a sneak peek of the future Carrier Library from JMU Libraries dean Bethany Nowviskie and Libraries staff members Kelly Miller-Martin and Andrew Strack. Carrier Library is scheduled to reopen in time for Fall 2026.
- Facing the High Cost of Textbooks: Find out how open educational resources (OER) can make education more affordable for JMU students in an interview with Open Education Librarian Liz Thompson and JMU’s VP for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Malika Carter-Hoyt. JMU Libraries is spearheading the effort to support faculty using OER—just one of the many ways faculty can make textbooks more affordable.
- Local ‘Green Book’ house: Mayor Deanna Reed describes efforts to preserve a former Harrisonburg boarding house that was used by Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. Faculty from JMU and Eastern Mennonite University partnered on this effort with archival expertise from JMU Libraries.
- AI at JMU: Co-chairs of JMU’s Presidential Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI), including our own Bethany Nowviskie, discuss their progress and what’s next for AI at JMU. The task force included 13 JMU Libraries employees, and we support the JMU community with resources for using AI in teaching, learning, and research.
