A new collection of African American historical records from 1865 to 1904, including voting registers, marriage registers, and other courthouse documents, are now available to access for free online through the Histories along the Blue Ridge digital archive. This digital archive represents a partnership between local circuit courts and JMU to digitize fragile courthouse documents, which recently expanded to include Augusta County. These records are now available for historians, researchers, and genealogists to access from anywhere in the world, furthering the understanding of our local Black history in the years immediately following the Emancipation.
